New beginnings await

After 15 years of serving the downtown, and more recently the Eastside community, we have decided to pass the torch to new ownership with a new model. During this transition we will no longer be servicing clients. 

Any clients looking for a short cut, shave or even a massage, we encourage you to try our sister salon located just a mile west, Hair M, with a location downtown at 1101 SW Main Street. Why not another 15 years?!

Clients likely do not know that most salons in the Portland area operate with independent contractors or 1099s as they are often referred to in the industry. This has become an even more popular operation model with the increasing cost of W2 employees in our region. Our chrome teams have been employees since we opened in 2009. We were able to offer guaranteed wages, insurance, paid time off, employee tax contributions and advanced training all while working to build the clientele for our teams. While our sister shop, Hair M, remains successful with this model, it has proven not the right model for the chrome salons. While it may seem simple to change models that is really not the case as Oregon law does allow you to have both 1099 and W2 employees in the same position, which means requiring all your employees to convert to 1099 which is not what many want. So you can see the challenge. On top of this our downtown location which was closed in 2020 for 13 months and closed again two years ago had the additional challenge of trying to get staff to work downtown and get clients who were no longer working or visiting downtown back. It is our hope that new ownership can bring new life to our beautiful salons with a new model.
